The sun had barely climbed over the hills of Granbury, Texas when I stood at the starting line of my first Spartan Race — a 10K packed with obstacles, mud, and more hills than I expected. The morning was cool and calm, but as the miles unfolded, the temperature rose, the ground turned slick, and the challenge became real.
At 5’2″, carrying a sandbag up a steep incline felt like dragging a boulder twice my size. My legs burned, my heart raced, and for a moment, I questioned my sanity. But somewhere between the sweat and the self-talk, I realized — this wasn’t just about finishing a race. It was about proving that strength doesn’t have an expiration date.
Turning 43 hasn’t slowed me down; it’s taught me to honor my health, my body, and the power of persistence. Every climb, every slip, and every obstacle reminded me that resilience is built one hard step at a time.
Crossing that finish line wasn’t about time — it was about transformation. I may not be the tallest or the fastest, but I am stronger, wiser, and more grounded than ever.
So to anyone wondering if they’re “too old” to start, to challenge themselves, or to chase a goal — let this be your reminder: you are never too late, too small, or too tired to do something bold.
Because strength isn’t about age — it’s about choosing to show up.
